Clyde on classic Campy gonna work?

I'm the proud owner of an Italian conversion with classic Campy. It's not perfect though; I'm having issues with the cranks. They're vintage C-record with Campy BB.

I stripped the crank on the spindle on the non-drive side in the first ride. The shop replaced it no questions asked at their cost, so that was OK. A few weeks in, though. I'm already getting a loud noise at the bottom of the stroke on the non-drive side when I pedal. I've called the shop, and they'll take care of it just fine, but it's making me think a bit about going all vintage.

Ps, I weigh 255 (big boned lol) and break stuff. I always go Thompson for seatposts and stems, Sugino 75 cranks, etc. I've snapped BMX cranks, taco'd MTB wheels, etc.

That said, am I too big / rough on equipment for a classic loose-bearing BB? Is this just a problem with the install? Would I be better served by, say, a Phil? I don't want to spend that but I will if I have to. TIA
