I'm 40 now, lived in Los Angeles through the riots and even drove through an area that was being looted-had no choice, I was going to pick up my wife and the freeways were gridlocked for hours. Avoiding trouble and keeping a cool head is the best way to stay alive IMO.
I would agree with you in any general situation, but I had inside information that these kids don't carry guns
They've been a nuisance in that neighborhood for a long time, but are only nuisances while parents are away. Not saying their parents are great folks, but when they leave harassment commences. Police have been called numerous times, but it has never amounted to anything. Bottom line is they're known for using knives to get wallets, and in other areas for actually particpating in a few stabbings.
The flash of the gun said "Even if you have a gun, one of you will get shot." So I put my kid at risk, but you know what? My kid was already at risk. Might as well let him know this time there would be consequences, and see if it would alleviate the risk as it could hardly elevate it. Kids never bugged me again, and many hoodlum kids started treating me with a different level of respect.
Think what you will, but my pistola is a big one, and I know for a fact it deters folks more than prompts them.
