Leave it at that. It's his bike now and he can ride or not ride it as he sees fit, as much as that pains you ;-)
I have an old Peugeot that I bought 20 years ago. I put about 50 miles a week on it but there was a space of several years where I barely rode it all. It spent a couple of years in my brothers garage because my sister in law used it for training for a short time. They finally brought it back because they didn't want it taking up space anymore, - not because I insisted that they return it. I've used it off and on since then but it wasn't until this year that I started putting some serious miles on it.
There's always another bike around the corner, and one that'll fit you better.
You guys are right. I was thinking much the same all along, I'm just a bike nerd with a serious bike collecting disease.
Its kinda funny, the bike is such a large frame but it still looks small when the kid is riding it. The seat post is almost at full extension too! Big kid.
