It is worth pointing out that the fact that this accident occurred had little to do with Sarah being on a bicycle, but rather just being in the way of the out of control vehicle. If the driver was as out of control as it appears that she was (we don't yet know the reason, could be medical or something), she could just as easily have swerved into oncoming traffic and taken out a family in a mini-van.
I was thinking the same. I am aware of of number of pedestrians and being killed and motorist injured locally in the past year from out of control vehicle going onto the sidewalk or into another vehicle. In two cases the drivers lost control as they became unconscious from medical condition or had died at the wheel prior.
