Wheelset - gear Question

Hey guys, i know there is another thread going atm about converting to 9 spd, but this one is different, sort of.

Its my birthday soon, which hopefully will mean a cash injection for me, my question is, i understand that 8 spd parts are becoming harder to come by and i've been thinking for a while of switching to 9spd but i dont have the funds to do it, but now, hopefully i can.

In order to upgrade from an 8 Spd set up, to a 9 spd set up, what will i need to change? I bought a set of XT shifters about 3 months ago, and was wandering, would i have to replace both shifters to a 9 speed, or will it still work the same if i just bought a 9 spd shifter, and left my other shifter on? (trying to save abit of money if you havent guessed )

Next question, i have a Specialized Hardrock Sport, with a set of Alex Rims, on the rear wheel the hub is Shimano m475 model, will i have to change out my wheelset in order to accomadate the new 9 spd Cassette?

As for the Front and rear deraillers, they can be left as they are if im not correcct? they will still work from an 8 speed goig to a 9 spd, i may upgrade my rear mech if i have the funds, my old one is starting to show its age a little.

Final question, will i need to change my chain? Im not sure whats on it at the moment, i was thinking of getting a Sachs PC69 chain, as it seems cost effective, and will do me for a while, as im not particualry hard on my equipment.

Any help would be greatly appreaciated
