I am a true newbie to the bike world. Starting my first project bike. I purchased a used GIANT Allegre bike from a guy for 40.00 He thought it was a 1992 era bike. I plan on doing some upgrades to make this a decent road bike. I am not going to throw a lot of money into the bike as it is probably not worth much. If anyone knows anything about this kind of bike that would be great. It has a Shimano RX100 group.
My issue...
For conveniance I want to install bar end shifters on the bike (new handle bar is part of the upgrade). From the looks of the shifter the downtube has this attachment for the levers that goes all the way through the downtube. How can I attach normal cable stops where the levers are now? Do they make some kind of adapter that attaches to where the levers are now? I seems that if I remove the lever mechanism there will be this 1/2" hole in the tube with no way of attaching some cable stops? Thoughts?
It looks like I will also need to replace the 7sp. cassette as there appears to be significant wear to the teeth on the lower gears...hope that is not a huge deal.
My plans are to replace the front fork/headset/stem/handlebars (entry level gear) and I will sandblast the frame and have it powder coated a nice fire engine red. I have my own powder coating system in my shop so that part is easy
