apparently, in this modern day and age, we cannot protect ourselves and our communities. it'd be nice, but we cannot consistently enforce standard laws on an individual basis. the world today is alot like orwell's 1984, but with a big twist. there's not necessarily an immortal ruling "Party," but a social machine of value far greater than any individual: "Can you not understand, Winston, that the individual is only a cell?
