When my brother in law was a new Police officer I gave him a "Police" knife with the words Police right on it. He loved it. It was a folding knife that can easily be opened with one hand, has a belt clip on one side so it will be secure and has a serrated blade that will quickly cut a seat belt in an emergency. It's more of an emergency tool, not a weapon. This link is almost like the one I bought and is labeled as a "rescue" knife, to give the idea that is is usefull in rescue or emergency situations. Most policemen would love something like this. There are others than actually have "police" or militay insignias, but this is a very practical design. And it's a "rescue" knife. Google "police knife" for other ideas. I spent a lot of time selling knives to and listening to police and military people, this is a handy knife.

It can be opened with one hand (either hand) easily. Like in a car accident to cut a seat belt to get out.
