re: cold toes -- I tried using some sandwhich bags over my toes underneath my shoes a few rides back on a cold(ish) day. It made a noteworthy difference in the overall comfiness of my otherwise cold toes. Not only do they help block the wind a bit, but they also help hold in some warmth. Throw some thick neoprene booties over the shoes and I think I may have just found my solution for cold weather riding.
