It's not hate at all. Only using a fixed gear to stop is illegal and unsafe. I have almost been hit on a few occasions both on a bike and as a pedestrian by out of control fixie riders.
now that you got me thinking, i've been almost hit by more than a couple cyclists all of which had brakes. its usually by their doing stupid stuff like rolling through stop signs, merging from off the sidewalk, or some other form of stupidity.
so maybe it comes down to the operator themselves, not whether or not brakes or no brakes, because grabbing a hand full of brake is not the only way to handle emergency situations.
