Senor Pedro is calling me...

I'm Nat, I live in SE PDX. I have been riding an expensive (courtesy of a fortunate insurance incident) 2001 Stumpjumper with slicks and an aftermarket 48t Salsa ring to and from work every day across the Hawthorne Bridge. Early last week, I realized four things:

1. I was trashing my nice XTR stuff riding on the grit
2. My Stumpjumper was too heavy to haul up and down the stairs of my office
3. I only shifted amongst about three gears in my entire commute
4. By avoiding sponsor-plastered spandex suits and only having one gear, I would not be a roadie

Therefore, I promptly went out and purchased "La Reconstruccion", a 1988 Trek 660 (with quite short rear drops) in heinous turquoise and pink for $100 in excellent shape. This coming weekend, I'm ripping off all that extra ***** and using the existing freewheel hub on a 42x15. Later on comes the TT bars and lever(s), the Surly hub and a silver paint job. A co-worker is going to help in the conversion in exchange for the leftover Shimano Ultegra 600 parts.

Advice or comments on my intended setup are greatly appreciated. Additionally, if anyone has done the "take the frame to an auto paint shop and let them paint it with leftover car paint" style of frame painting in Portland, please let me know where you went.

In other news, I own a web programming company (Fusium) in NW and took delivery of my first baby on May 1. This is my first post.
