I am not old enough to confirm this, but I can imagine donnamb is right. Singlespeeds these days, at least in australia, are hippy-framed bikes. I need an untimidating simple bike. A normal round tubed diamond frame. No loud decals, no front suspensions and no sloping downtube. I need a simple gear system, no 27-speed. Maybe a simple 3-speed internal hub or a singlespeed. Where are these bikes? Are they in Europe? Are they only in the past?
I blame this on industrial designers. Always wanting to add round curves and flashy extras to everything. Simplicity is desecrated in every human invention by these misguided souls. Don't ask me why I'm doing industrial design at university next year. On the other hand maybe I'll be able to help stop some other ******** designer to uglif another honest human invention.
