The tape I am using is current-production Velox - same as the old Tressoplast/Tressostar. I, personally, find the cotton wrap satisfactory, for I don't care for a padded feel (of any thickness) under my hands, but I do enjoy the grip provided by the cotton. So far, I haven't received any sore feeling in my hands from these "bare-on-the-bars" setups.

Believe it or not, I wrap the Eddy way - from the center outwards, and plugged at the ends. I usually don't encounter any problems, particularly with the sticky-back cotton tape - I've never had a case in where the tape moves out of position, even after quite a few rides.
