I had an experience kind of like oldfool where I had 4 people in my beater Escort coming home (to KC) from Vegas via Denver. I just figured I would coast down the mountain. Then, it started getting dicey and my little 1.9L engine couldn't even provide enough engine brake power for my overloaded grocery-getter. When we got to a gas station, I could see orange shadows on the pavement, which ended up being red-hot rotors glowing through my wheels.
