The buyer of that bike is pretty generous with his collection. Much of it is documented online, and he frequently brings his bikes to vintage rides and events. As far as I know, all of the bikes he buys are his size.
As far as the price, as Otis noted, if that bike had been a bit larger, it would have gone for quite a bit more money. The buyer got a relative bargain.
Agreed, It was a relative bargain, hence my original post. Would you mind linking to his gallery? I would love to see his full collection, rather than what has been bought in the last 30 days on eBay.

I always enjoy looking at Ray Dobbins bikes, and truly appreciate the work he's put into them (thanks for sharing, Ray). Does this collector share his restoration techniques as well?

I'd be most grateful if someone could point me to another collection I could aspire to having someday.

Still unanswered is my question of the provenance of this bike. Is it an original Molteni frame, or a customer requested copy?

PS--The only bike parts I own that I wouldn't ride daily are my original Mavic 280GEL wheelsets, because I probably weigh too much too safely ride them. The only reason I keep them is because I always hold out hope of one day getting to under 150lbs again. At least my wife can ride them!

PPS-- Caterham doesn't seem to have a problem riding with the globe logo hoods. Is there reason they should be saved and never ridden? I think they can still be had if money isn't an issue. I think my shield logo hoods are just as fast, just not as cool to the odd person that would notice.

I'm done venting, thanks.

John
