Boneshakers could be just about any velocipede or, more properly, draisine from Baron Drais von Sauerbronn laugmaschine of 1817 to Pierre Lallement improvement of the draisine in 1863. All of them were made with spoked wagon wheels that would have been rougher than a cob to ride, ergo the name boneshaker.
I believe the term boneshaker applied exclusively to the pedal bikes and not the hobby horses. Just as the term hobby horse did not apply to boneshakers.
