As for the helicoil, I have never been a fan of doing this type of repair on any crankarm. Yes, if done properly it may last, but take into account you weight and riding style. I'm 200lbs and would not do it on any of my crank arms if i stripped out the threads.
As long as it is square taper you are fine, except that the Truvativ 5D has a different orientation of the square taper hole vs crank than Shimano (45 deg off), so you can go to Shimano or Sugino or whatever, but you have to change both crank arms (unless you don't mind having the crank arms 45 deg off...). I would look for a set of cranks off eBay.
