28c vs 25c tires on 700 Wheel

Hi:

I wanted to finally try out the Schwalbe (sp?) tires that everyone has been raving about; however, it seems that the marathon and Marathon Plus are in the 25c & 28c respectively. So, my question is how do you know if your bike will suppport a 28c tire. Right now it has 25c tires and the back wheel gets a little tight when you take it on and off with the tire up to pressure. (When the air is out, it can be mounted easially.

On a side note, the hook on the rubber cord I used to hold my lunch on the carrier came loose and grabbed hold of the back wheel and bent a spoke and wheel, I think ( I have to retrue the wheel and see if it is savagable). It also ruined the current tire and tube as I skidded on it, till I could stop. So, I have to use my mt bike to get to work until this gets fixed. So, I am in desperate need of a new tire.

The bike is a Giant TCR Compac Road bike 9 speed (racing type). I use this for commuting to work mostly, and I have been using the bontrager raclite hardcase. They are good for flats but they don't give a whole lot a mileage. So, everyone recommend the schwable. So I would either try the marathon at 25c, or the plus at 28C.

What would you recommend?
