I went from PI large to large in Assos. The Assos are a bit tighter than the PI, but the fit is much better. The tightness felt by the shorts disappears quickly as the fabric sort of blends with your skin. It is very difficult for me to express how the feel of these short actually "feel", but I can tell you they are well worth the money if you can afford them.
