What you have is the first rendetion of the re-introduced Collegiate. In '64 Schwinn brought the Collegiate back with a five speed RD and a toptube shifter. I forget when, but the prior version of the Collegiates ended in the late '50s, were either 3 or single speed bikes. Your bike is either a '65 or '66. The '64 had painted fenders and in '67 Schwinn moved the shifter to the stem. While the toptube shifter models are not rare, they are harder to find than the newer ones.

I hope you didn't "chop" the original bars. Here are pictures of my two. A Radiant Blue '64 and a Coppertone '66. The more original a Collegiate, the more it is worth. Pristene ones with the toptube shifter have gone for up to and past $200.
