I'm trying to find the weight rating on generic 2" plastic side release buckles. I found some 1 1/2" buckles rated at 250 lbs, so I can only assume the average 2" can take as much. What strikes me as the weak point of these buckles are that as the weather gets colder, the plastic becomes more brittle and can crack more easily (from non-lateral stress such as bumping the buckle against your frame and whatnot). You guys ever broke a 2 incher?
I've also been looking for a place to get the same kind of aluminum buckles that I've seen on some climbing harnesses. A metal buckle would be the best because it couldn't break, and I don't like the Chrome style buckles. Links are appreciated.
