I carry around a pair of latex gloves in the winter. If it's a really nasty cold morning or perhaps the fog is a bit thick and my gloves are getting a bit damp and cold, I stop and put the latex on underneath my regular gloves. I don't know if it's the additional wind that is cut or the moisture barrier but it seems to make a big difference for me. Considering what you can get a whole plastic jar of these things for at Home Depot, it's better than spending a ton on gloves that will be cold if they get wet anyway. It's also nice to have if you drop a chain and don't want to mess up your hands.
