I can only speak of 9 speed because after that I went with Campy. I went from 105 to D-A. I cannot say that the shifting was more precise with both optimally tuned, but definitely smoother with DA. I recall initially having to eyeball my cassette to be sure the chain was moving with my shift as there was no associated clunk that I was accustomed to.

Triples, they just suck!
