A guy from around these parts was riding a steel Waterford, using downtube shifters and a straight block/corn cob 7 speed cluster up until last year. He won 20+ races in the Pro/1/2 and M35+, often on the same day.
This year he was on modified Record brifters, still using 7 speed, and killed people just as often.
Does he have a name? I am sure I can find his picture and story on the net, or at least his record on USCF web site.
I haven't seen anyone do soul crushing around here on a steel frame. By the way, D20 is the most competitive area in US, especially in crit racing.
