68mm English is by far the most common bb size/type, you shouldn't be limited at all with what you can put on the bike. If you go with an outboard bearing setup, you might need to have the bottom bracket shell faced to make sure both sides are perfectly parallel to one another, this is particularly important with outboard bearing bb's.
