There's plenty of "all-day" riders available in the contemporary lineups. All major manufacturers have good, comfortable bikes in their product lines. ALL of them. For example, I'd take a new Giant OCR over a new vintage Peugeot UO8 any day - and I've ridden both.

I ride both modern and vintage bikes regularly, and for distance. The only thing I can state with "utmost" confidence is that you can get a "twitchy" bike or a "comfortable" bike from either category. It has nothing to do with being vintage or not - it's a useless comparison.
