The bike has horizontal dropouts, and no, the cable doesn't come with the hub. For the 7 speed, there's a rapid fire shifter too, which is what I'll get - the 8 speed only has a twist grip. What I still don't know, and really need to, is whether the fitting kits are specific to the different speed hubs, or whether they're generic. I don't want to spend money and end up with one I can't use.

7 and 8 speed use the same washers. You just need to figure out your dropout angle. The 3 speed does not matter as it does not employ a cassette joint.
