I was at the beach in SC last summer, and had mapped out a T-shaped course that was about 15 miles long. I would do it three times, working pretty hard, and considering how flat and windy it was, it was a hard workout for me. One day, as I was riding, a rider was coming toward me in the opposite lane (two lanes, relatively fast traffic both ways). He was an older guy, big beard, wearing some pro team kit, moving pretty slowly. I only saw him at the last minute, but waved and said hi. He yelled something at me, but I missed it and kept going. Later, when riding back the other way, I saw him coming, and I waved again. He stopped and waved at me, like he wanted me to stop and talk, but I nicely waved and kept going. He yelled something again, but I missed it. The next day, I see him at a convenience store where I was starting my ride, and say hi. He gave me a hard time for not stopping the day before to talk, saying he was just trying to be nice and maybe find somebody to ride with. I really was surprised, I had waved and said hi. I said I was sorry, that I was doing intervals and could not stop in the middle. Not sure how that relates to this thread, but I thougt it was funny. Of course, after that I droped the hammer on him, but that's another story.
