Sadly I have also reached this conclusion. I have both knee warmers and leg warmers. In theory I love them. But it just doesn't matter if I put the leg warmers outside the shorts, or inside the shorts, there's always that patch of exposed flesh getting cold.
I was in the same spot where you were last winter. Not having to worry about leg warmers falling down or getting out of place reduces a lot of angst. As soon as winter hit this year I bought a nice set of tights. They are super comfortable as well.
