IMO the PM or HRM when riding intervals does not help much. Your intervals should be done at maximum effort and to exhuastion for the entire time period.
Not really because different zones yield different results. I was doing 5x5's today at LT. That is obviously not to failure as I wanted different benefits than to increase neuro power.
Now to the HRM vs PM. I like my PM because my HR never matches up unless I am in Z1. Todays workout was a total of 26 minutes in Z4 but my HR was mainly in Z2. My coach prescribed an interval workout at Z4 HR. If I was only going by HR, I theoretically would never have met the goal since I would have had to push myself much harder to meet the HR requirements.
