a lot of the guys on here use platform pedals. most – if not all – will tell you that any pair of skater shoes would work really well with them. myself, i got a pair of vans that i use for riding and they’re pretty good for grip.
you might also want to invest in some shin guards to prevent ripping up your shins further. i’ve got a pair of 661 knee/shin guards that i almost always wear when riding.
