Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

Dunno what the problem was, but it's gone. As I was wheeling the bike away from the carpool after work, a bungee cord got wrapped around the cassette and under the deraileur. (I stupidly tossed it on the rack when I parked this morning, rather than put it in my bag.)

Two minutes and two rubber gloves later, I was able to extract it. I must have knocked something loose - maybe a pebble caught in the gears - because it was fine after that. Next time I have drivetrain problems, I'm gonna toss a bungee cord into the deraileur.
