On any build how do you know the right size frame to buy either from LBS or online?

If you are just buying a frame it is hard to go to the LBS and throw your leg over the frame you are interested in. I think that it is reasonable to ask people who have that frame what are their thoughts concerning that frame. That is where bikeforums and the internet is a powerful tool.
