2. Yes, the brake posts are removable, but I'm going to keep them on there in case I want to turn it into a cyclocross or touring some time in the future. I realize that keeping them wouldn't hinder that, but the guy at the shop I bought it from says he runs into a lot of problems with people taking them off and not being able to put brakes back on because they are too dirty or have been screwed up in some way. I don't really mind how they look either.
