I have not ridden one, but the Kogswell Porteur looks like an ideal touring bike. Many years ago I toured on a Raleigh International and although a nice "light touring" bike, it was not the most stable of rides with significant loads. High speed descents on winding mountain roads were a bit sketchy. With 1" tires it was not super durable on rough roads either.

I'm not a fan of touring on mountain bikes either as gearing and tires are not well suited to speed on pavement.

The Porteur looks great and everything I've heard from those who own them tells me that it belongs on the short-list of touring bikes. www.kogswell.com
