My first wheelbuild was 35 years ago. Used rim, hub and spokes, not all of which turned out to be the right length. No instructions available on the internet then. I had no truing stand, wheel dishing gauge or even a proper spoke wrench. I just tried to figure it out on my own. Frustration abounded!
When it was finally done my long suffering wife said "If you ever try that again, let me know ahead of time. I'll spend that week at my mother's."
Hundreds of wheels later I use a dial indicator truing stand I built myself and a spoke tension meter. Takes about an hour to build and true a VERY tight wheel within +/- 0.004" lateral and radial.
