I have learned that the best thing is heat and then ice. Also make sure to stretch it out as often as possible, not until it hurts just enough to keep it moving. Don't try to hammer when you first get on the bike, especially when it is cold out. Not sure if it is cold where you live but give you body a chance to get some blood flow to you legs before you try and pass a commuter.
