I'm telling you, it's Pacific that ought to be ashamed. Even if you're talking about a bike shop "Schwinn," what they're doing still sucks. Put one of the current higher end "Schwinns" next to another brand, and all other things being equal they're hoping the "Schwinn" will sell because the uninformed consumer will think, "gee, it's a Schwinn, they've been around forever, so I think I can trust that this is a good bike more than the other one." When in reality, Schwinn's been out of business for some time. It's a trick, basically. Sure, the "Schwinn" might have been manufactured right next to a comparable Trek, Giant, etc. etc. in the same overseas factory. But at least those other companies are still in business. What about Trek, you might ask? They've bought brands before, Gary Fisher for example. But Gary Fisher is an active employee of Trek, still has a lot of input, etc.
Nope, this Pacific "Schwinn" thing is just wrong IMO. If your opinion differs, that's okay. Like I said earlier, I'm sure they're selling milllions of'em; from "Varsities" to "Le Tours" to "Voyageurs."
