Yes, the Nazis used it quite a bit. It is a disinhibitor.

They didn't say whether I was speaking as I was going under or as I was coming out, in between, or some combination of those.

The first thing I can remember afterwards was being in a car talking with my brother, who was driving me home. I remember a few of the looks on his face, and they seemed to indicate that I was perhaps "free associating on another level" as someone once put it.
