I know what u mean.... Most of my riding is on an MUP so I know the exact miles and keep up with it on a calendar. Some of my road routes I measured with a bike computer and know the distance.........But,,,,,,I too, have ridden down the roads and paths with no way to measure so some of mine is estimated as well. I still enjoyed at least 80% of the miles. There were some miles I would rather forget!!!
