Start promoting bicycling! Stop degrading people who choose to wear a helmet, and stop the name-calling. If you want more cyclists, take Closetbiker's link to the Cycling England document, Cycling & Health, download it, read it, and start distributing it to schools, to physician's offices, to churches, to the YMCA/YWCA, recreational groups, and anyone who will listen. Let's build on this, and enjoy the cycling.

.........and the five ducks I scattered when I went by. The ducks went flying down the bike path until they found an opening in the trees to ascend into the bright, blue sky. On my way back from the store, I encountered the tail end of another shower, and rode up on the path toward the top of the hill. The sun suddenly broke through, and I said to a pedestrian out walking his dog................

Let's let this effort by Closetbiker become our rainbow, where we put aside this bickering and actually promote bicycling.

Thanks Closetbiker, and a Happy New Year to all of you.

John
Thats Vail with an (a), dang that bugs me when people misspell others names.

I wonder if ducks wear helmets on the bike path.......further I wonder how many dog owners slip and fall while walking their dog?

Either way, I try not to make personal name calling a habit and would be interested to read where I have done so on this thread. I don't think I have degraded anyone who chooses to wear a helmet either. Heck, I even wear a helmet when required and even when not required.....I just don't put much faith in them and I resent other cyclists telling me I have to or that I am stupid and prove Darwinism's survival of the fittest theory by not wearing one. One of my points has always been that millions of cyclists for over 100 years have successfully ridden with no helmet and still do. I also have the experience to have ridden most of my adult life with no helmet. I have actually fallen more times walking than in any other activity so maybe that means walking is more dangerous than cycling. This idea is actually more true than we might think since there are more cases of people receiving head injuries while walking than while bicycling and it is one of the primary ways elderly folks are injured. I think I might start walking around with a bicycling helmet, especially when its icy.
Happy New Year and don't crash.
