The only drawback is they're quick release type skewers, so they're not compatible with 10mm axle hubs.
since you're getting a new wheel, though, you may want to get it laced to a quick release hub and grab these. i've tried to defeat them at home-- it's pretty much impossible without the special tool.
Conceivably it would be very simple for someone to CNC some track nuts with a similar system. The spline would be a much larger diameter though.
