Weight Training and Riding

It seems that if I weight train the night before riding the next morning my effort suffers somewhat usually from the middle of the ride on (on hilly 50-60 mile rides). I do weight training twice a week, usually on Monday and Friday nights (my son does weight training for football and needs a ride to the gym those nights.). Most of my longer rides are either on Saturday or Sunday 50-60 miles and on the Saturday morning rides when I work out the night before I notice the difference. When I know I am riding the next morning I don't do any work on my legs, or very little just to loosen them up. I figured that was good enough.

There was a gap of about 4 or 5 weeks during the fall where I didn't work out at all and I noticed that I was finishing at the lot with the first group where recently I have been with the last group. Does this make any sense?
