I have an unused 8 speed cassette that came with one my bikes, but it is geared for MTB use. At this point, I have found a 9 speed road cassette that I'm hoping will fit right onto my current hub. I haven't yet found contrary arguments against doing such.

But in the event I wanted to install an 8 speed, I would not need the spacer?
