It is possible to drill out the ends of the bars so that bar end shifters will fit. A drill press and 3/4" and 7/8" drill bits are required. A member of this forum has instructions online somewhere. The only 7/8" diameter bars that will accept bar end shifters without this modification are thin walled steel or heat treated aluminum.
