Question about shift lever bosses
I was curious the other day so I took the shift levers off my Record clamp on shifters and the cable stops off my Bianchi and measured the bosses. The diameter of the boss, size and shape of the flat portion, and the size/threading for the screw were all the same. The only difference was the length. The braze-ons on the Bianchi are much longer than the bosses on the Campy clamp. I didn't feel like messing with the cabling so I didn't try it but I would guess you could mount the cable stops on the clamp-on bosses but could not mount the Record shift levers on the braze-on bosses. I was a bit surprised by this since I'm pretty sure the old Record shifters were the same parts whether you got clamp-ons or braze-ons. Can anyone school me on the different types/styles/sizes of shift lever clamps/bosses/cable stop bosses? Thanks.
