I believe those are what Frank Berto refered to as "bulged" in his 1988 book "Complete Guide to Upgrading Your Bike". He lists two Araya rim models 16A (3) and 16A (5) as having bulged edges.

My Rigidas have the same bulged edge and I run wire bead tires at 95-psi front/105-psi rear with no problem. The original rims on my old Bottecchia Special back in 1974 were Fiamme yellow label clinchers with straight edges and it came from the factory with Clement tires rated at 100-psi max which is how I ran them since I didn't know I wasn't supposed to. Never had any problem there either.
