i used to be that way when i had a freewheel on my iro. half the reason i started riding fixed was to get over my paranoia of riding with toe clips all day. i can tell you that i love riding with clips now (it only took a week to get truly comfortable) and i love riding fixed gear (also took a week to get comfortable); looking back at this point, i feel i am probably three times the biker i used to be and equally better at playing the traffic. the hardest thing to get used to was pedaling through tight turns between cars.
