+1 - getting 3000 miles out of a set of pedals is nothing to brag about. You oughta be able to get 3000 miles year for 10 years out of a set of pedals. With the Shimanos it's very likely that you will.
My point is that after 3000 miles they show no signs of excessive wear, and work well, and have been crashed into rocks several times on singletrack. I also reccomend stepping up to the 520s, mostly because they "feel" a bit nicer, but that doesn't mean the wellgos are complete junk.
