The problem is that you're not correcting anyone's grammar. The manner in which people use words creates their definitions. Therefore, when everyone says and understands that "PC" and "Windows-based home computer" are synonyms, then using "PC" in this manner is grammatically correct.

As I said, it's a widely used and commonly understood colloquialism. The more you push this, the more ignorant you're going to look.
